Harvard biomarkers study: Biomarkers for Parkinson’s

We are seeking adult volunteers to participate in a research study aimed at developing blood tests for Parkinson’s disease. You may be eligible to participate if you have Parkinson’s disease or if you are a healthy volunteer with no immediate family members with Parkinson’s disease.

What does participation involve?

If you join the study, you will be asked to come to Massachusetts General Hospital for seven research study visits over three years. You will be asked for a blood sample every six months, and to complete a smell test, questionnaires and memory tests during the visit. You will also be asked to donate some cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), which is collected by a procedure known as lumbar puncture or spinal tap. This part of the study is optional. If you agree to donate CSF, you will be compensated $200 for each lumbar puncture (we may do up to four lumbar punctures, but no more than one per year).
